The goal of the project is to provide realtime data for ocean model validation and assimilation throughout hurricane season. This project is supported by the Disaster Recovery Act. The glider was deployed out of Tuckerton, NJ and will transect offshore along the Endurance line to the shelf break, south along the break then back toward Tuckerton, NJ with an inshore point at about 30 meters depth. This dataset contains CTD measurements from both a Seabird Scientific pumped CTD and an RBRlegato3 inductive CTD. This is the fourth deployment of this glider of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season with the same mission objectives as the previous. This is a ‘check-out’ deployment for the newly purchased glider to determine if there are any hardware issues that need to be addressed ahead of hurricane season. This is a partnership between NOAA Ocean and Atmospheric Research (OAR) through the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) and Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) regional associations such as MARACOOS, SECOORA, CariCOOS and institutions including the University of Puerto Rico, University of the Virgin Islands, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, University of Delaware, and Rutgers University. The goal of the project is to provide realtime data for ocean model validation and assimilation throughout hurricane season. This project is supported by the Disaster Recovery Act. This glider was supported by MARACOOS and deployed out of Tuckerton, NJ and will sample a triangle pattern out toward the shelf-break. The pH sensor unit is complemented with existing glider sensors including a CTD, a WETLabs FLBBCD ECO puck configured for simultaneous chlorophyll fluorescence and optical backscatter measurements, and an Aanderaa Optode for measuring dissolved oxygen. This approximately 21 to 30 day deployment out of Sandy Hook, NJ will run cross-shelf transects zig-zagging southward and ultimately coming back inshore along E line for a planned recovery out of Tuckerton, NJ as the battery pack allows. This glider track will cover Atlantic sea scallop and Atlantic surfclam habitats in the MAB. The real-time dataset contains CTD, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll a, CDOM and optical backscatter measurements. Dissolved oxygen and pH data will be processed post-deployment.
