The glider used for the automated observation includes an integrated deep rated version of the Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor (ISFET)-based pH sensor. The pH sensor unit is complemented with existing glider sensors including a CTD, a WETLabs FLBBCD ECO puck configured for simultaneous chlorophyll fluorescence and optical backscatter measurements, and an Aanderaa Optode for measuring dissolved oxygen. This approximately 21 to 30 day deployment out of Sandy Hook, NJ will run cross-shelf transects zig-zagging southward and ultimately coming back inshore along E line for a planned recovery out of Tuckerton, NJ as the battery pack allows. This glider track will cover Atlantic sea scallop and Atlantic surfclam habitats in the MAB. The real-time dataset contains CTD, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll a, CDOM and optical backscatter measurements. Dissolved oxygen and pH data will be processed post-deployment. This is the first deployment of this glider in 2022. This deployment also supports the realtime data delivery of autonomous underwater gliders in the coastal ocean to better resolve and understand essential ocean features and processes that contribute to hurricane intensification or weakening prior to making landfall. This is a partnership between NOAA Ocean and Atmospheric Research (OAR) through the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) and Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) regional associations such as MARACOOS, SECOORA, CariCOOS and institutions including the University of Puerto Rico, University of the Virgin Islands, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, University of Delaware, and Rutgers University. The goal of the project is to provide realtime data for ocean model validation and assimilation throughout hurricane season. This project is supported by the Disaster Recovery Act. The real-time dataset contains CTD, chlorophyll a, CDOM, optical backscatter, and pH measurements. Other carbonate chemistry data and acoustically-derived data will be processed post-deployment. The program is supported by New York state's Department of Environmental Conservation. The glider program will consist of four seasonal cruises covering the area between eastern Long Island and New Jersey, and out to the shelf break. The other program components include seasonal cruises to acoustically survey plankton and fish with net tow ground truthing combined with physical/chemical hydrocast measurements and marine mammal surveys. This real-time dataset includes measurments of temperature, salinity, chlorophyll a, colored dissovled organic matter, optical backscatter and oxygent concentration and saturation.
